The “true” beginning of the year, January 1 of the Gregorian calendar, is hardly a convention imposed by custom.
The “year” is a revolution around the Sun, which has no “beginning” or “end” but, if one is to be considered, it is when the Sun is positioned in the 0 degrees of the first sign, Aries. That is the March equinox (usually between the 19th and the 21st); That is the beginning of the Astrological Year and therefore Esoteric.
The Equinox ritual

The following is a ritual to perform during this event. At the time that the equinox is in this year —which is when the Sun is perpendicular to the equatorial line—, light a white candle in front of a bowl (glass or crystal) filled with water. This bowl is essential: it is not made of ceramic or any opaque material, or plastic. Consequently, it can be made of colored glass, or with engraved or painted details, as long as it can be seen through it. And it should be a “bowl”, not a glass (although it can be a wide-mouthed glass).
Dress in white, or completely naked for this rite.
As we said, the bowl is placed in front of the lit candle, forming —candle, bowl, person— a line facing east.
The tolerance with respect to the indicated time is, if it were before, forty minutes, and if it were after, fifteen minutes (so as not to leave the Planetary Hour range in which it is located).

He takes the bowl and pronounces on it, with a strong and clear voice, the purposes and objectives, proper or of our relationships, for the present astrological year; care must be taken to observe that the voice — or rather, the breath expelled when speaking — shakes the surface of the water visibly. These “affirmations” are repeated a second time (we suggest having previously made very clear what we are going to invoke in our lives), and then the bowl is taken with both hands and through it the flame of the candle is observed.
Then, we wet the index and middle finger of the right hand (keeping the thumb covering the ring and little finger) in the water and we splash in the four cardinal directions, up and down (re-soaking the fingers in water each time).
After that, we take the bowl and drink three drinks, each thanking each Triune aspect of our Being (Body, Mind, Spirit) for being and being here and for choosing this moment, after which we raise the bowl over our head and We pour its contents slowly and delicately on it (we can do it so that the water flows into a container or surface without wetting the rest of the body).
Immediately afterwards, we smash the bowl against the ground, breaking it, and we place both palms of the hands on the flame of the candle, saying: «The All is Light and Shadows, but I choose to be the vehicle of its Light», and immediately rub our face .
The Ritual has ended. The candle is allowed to burn to the end and, together with the remains of the bowl, is buried somewhere in the open before dark the next day.
